Public Review for Gull Sculpture Installation

On March 26, 2008, [Solana Beach] City Council accepted into the City’s permanent art collection the donation of a large sculpture of a gull. At that time, City Council directed the Fletcher Cove Ad Hoc Subcommittee of Council members Heebner and Campbell to review potential location sites for installation of the gull sculpture on the community center grounds. They recommended a potential location for installation at the entrance to Fletcher Cove Park near the intersection of Plaza Street, Pacific Avenue, and Sierra Avenue. Installation of the gull sculpture will add to the diversity of the City’s permanent art collection and allow the community to experience the piece.

On July 9, 2008, the Council gave authorization to open the 45-day public review period to receive public comments on the proposed design and location of the gull sculpture as rendered in the photograph below. This public review period is open until Friday, September 12, 2008. Your comments are welcome and can be directed to Anita Edman at 858 720-2454 or aedman@cosb.org. Thank you for your interest in the Solana Beach public art program.
